The Mill Race Theatre Company Board of Directors is comprised of 15 board members, five of which are executive board members. The Board is looking to fill 5 board roles beginning September 2025. If you have interest in getting more involved behind-the-scenes, fill out our interest form below. Open Positions:

  • Community Relations: Responsible for current and existing external partnerships, such as the Parks Department (Hangar storage space), the Chamber of Commerce, high school faculty (theatre departments), middle school faculty (theatre departments), BCSC and facilities staff (Facilitron), Mill Race Center, The Commons, Helen Haddad Hall, etc.; Maintains and nurtures relationships to facilitate touchpoints and working relationships between productions teams and partners; Maintains contact lists for each partnership, and identifies appropriate parties and channel to maintain regular contact and relationships; Acts as main point of contact for community partners. Relationship Management experience preferred.

  • DEI (Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion): Responsible for diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy and activities for the organization; Develops DEI expectations and guidance for production teams, board, and those granted agency by the organization; Leads advocacy efforts to enhance organizational competence on marginalized communities and their experience; Plans and implements activities to enhance an inclusive culture within the organization. DEI role experience preferred.

  • Marketing Understudy: The “Understudy” role is new this year and is intended to facilitate transitions and encourage depth of skills on the board. The focus of the “Understudy” role will change each year, based on need. This year, we are bringing on an additional Marketing board member to work alongside our existing Marketing Chair. They will work closely together to transfer role knowledge over the next year. The Marketing Understudy will assume the Marketing Chair board role in September 2026 when the existing Marketing Chair rolls off the board. Responsible for branding, communication, marketing, and social media strategy for the organization; Develops and implements marketing plans for organization level events; Provides guidance and oversight to production teams and those granted agency by the organization on marketing and communications. Marketing experience preferred.

  • Member Engagement: Responsible for constituent experience and engagement (an internally-facing role). Leads the collection and analysis of surveys/feedback and coordinate board presence with show staff; Liaises with Program Development on recruiting and on future improvements based on the feedback; Liaises with IT and Marketing on the CRM tool (HubSpot) and helps manage the newsletter and internal communications; Manages internal opportunities and coordinate communications on items, such as acting opportunities for other organizations with our constituents. Relationship Management experience preferred.

  • Policies and Procedures: Responsible for documenting and maintaining the organization’s policies and procedures; Liaises with other board members and constituents to document operations; Identifies, develops, and presents new documents or changes to the full Board for review and approval; Develops and maintains a comprehensive list of required processes and procedures for the organization; Develops a strategy for maintenance and regular review of all process and procedure documents. Policy/procedure writing and organization experience preferred.

Board Member Expectations:

  • Attend monthly board meetings

  • Provide support to each show

  • Move your role forward

  • Use your network to further the organization

  • Participate in outreach throughout the year

  • Financially support the organization

  • Maintain confidentiality of board discussions

  • Act as an ambassador for board decisions and the MRTC brand

  • Be ready to have open discussions and share your unique perspectives and support board decisions

Term Details:

Board Member terms are three (3) years. Members may be re-elected for an additional consecutive term, for a total of six (6) consecutive years of service. In some cases, new board members will be taking over a partial term slot. For more information about term limits and other board member processes, please reference our By-Laws.
