About Us

What is MRTC?

Mill Race Theatre Company, formerly Mill Race Players, is the oldest community theatre organization in Columbus, Indiana. Performances in Mill Race Park began with “Bye Bye Birdie” in the summer of 1969.  Through the years we have produced more than 100 shows. Want to find out more about our heritage? We’ll be adding a History & Past Production section to our site very soon.

Our Mission

Through the power of the theatrical arts, Mill Race Theatre Company expands minds, develops character, and instills confidence. We nourish collaborative possibilities to entertain, imagine, and explore.

Our Vision

To create a sustainable theatre arts program that can positively transform the community.

Equality: Our Commitment to Our Community

As a theatrical organization that serves a vibrant and diverse community, MRTC has always endeavored to be a welcoming place of inclusivity and warmth. Even so, we realize that we may not have always succeeded in our ideals. The 2020 and ongoing racial protests have compelled our Board of Directors to take a deeper look at our organization, to consider what inclusivity truly means, and to determine how we can best create a space in which everyone feels welcome and free to participate.

By-Laws

The Bylaws form the backbone of the organization. These bylaws are the most recent as of 12/14/2016 and were adopted 02/11/2016:

A 501(c)3 Non-Profit Business

As of the March, 2016, Mill Race Theatre Company has been determined by the IRS to be a non-profit business as defined in Section 501(c)3 of the United States Internal Revenue Code.

What does that mean? Not only is a 501(c)3 organization exempt from federal income tax, but any donations made to the organization can be deducted from the donor’s taxable income. See a tax professional for more guidance on this topic.

As a 501(c)3 organization, a number of documents are required to be publicly available for inspection. To request these documents, please contact us at or by visiting the Contact Us page.
